World War II USAAF high altitude flight pants
You can adopt our pair of leather flight pants for $50.00
World War II was the first conflict that included air power as a key component. The United States Army Air Corps (USAAF) was put to the test with bombers and fighter planes filling the air over Europe and other theaters of war.
To protect air crews from extreme elements, American bomber crews suited up in heavy leather (shearling) clothing that protected them from freezing in the below zero temperatures found at high altitude. The highly effective flight suits were produced by the thousands to fill the needs of combat crews. Manufacturers treated the leather with a fire retardant chemical as a safety precaution. That treatment was effective then, but now, 75 years later, chemicals make the leather brittle to the point where, even the slightest tug will break or tear pieces off.
Adopting our pair of leather flight pants would allow us to stabilize the garment and seek professional treatment aimed at preservation.
